Iraq’s “State Religion”, by Wayne Price

EDITOR’S NOTE: Why does our government seek to eradicate God from public life, while sending American sons to die for a government that establishes Islam as its official religion?

The headlines read as follows: “As fighting raged in Baghdad’s western neighborhoods, Iraq’s freshly minted legislators pounded out their first agreement on the 15 basic articles to guide their new constitution — including democracy, federalism, separation of powers and making Islam the state religion.

“The 55-member parliamentary committee has until Aug. 15 to draft the constitution, which must be approved in an October referendum.

“‘We agree on articles to be basics for laying down the constitution, including federalism, separation of powers, that people will be the source of those powers, democracy and that Islam will be the official government. All these articles were approved and got unanimous agreement,’ Saad Jawad Qantil said.”

The incongruity of some points on which they agreed is evident. How can you have democracy and at the same time have Islam as the official government religion? That is the same as maintaining that we are going to have Islam as the official government religion, but we are also going to have freedom of religion. The two concepts are antithetical.

As everyone knows, the basis for the religion of Islam is their holy book, the Quran (Koran). If Islam is the official government religion, then necessarily the government is endorsing the teachings of the Koran (this cannot be successfully denied).

The Koran teaches (Surah 4:89) that Allah (their god) does not want non-Muslims influencing Muslims, and that Muslims are not “to take friends from their ranks” since they “wish that ye should reject Faith.” Then, in the very same context, the Koran immediately teaches “Seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; And take no friends or helpers from their ranks.”

Supposedly, some Muslims are fighting terrorism on the one hand, but all the while endorsing it on the other! Every loyal Muslim is avidly opposed to anyone besmirching the name of Muhammad (Allah’s alleged final and greatest prophet) so no one is allowed to defame his name by telling the truth — i.e., by letting others know that he is one of the most notorious terrorists who ever lived! Christ shed His own blood on the cross so that people could be saved from sin, but Muhammad shed other people’s blood so he could dominate the Arabian Peninsula! Muhammad is held up as the example to follow for one who “hopes in Allah and the Final Day” (Surah 33:21).

In this work of Muhammad — the Koran — Muslims are urged to “fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem.” Now if a Muslim is loyal to the Koran and the teachings of Muhammad, and is sincere in his beliefs, then his sincerity (though misguided) will ultimately require him to sanction terrorism! (If not, why not?). The terrorists still cry “Allah Akbar — God is Great” as they behead innocent people in the furtherance of their violent religion. Jesus never commanded anyone to use violence in the spreading of Christianity. If some do commit murder in the name of Christianity, they disobey their supposed leader, but Muslims who murder in the name of religion are following the example of their leader and obeying the Koran. How naive it is for us to believe that Islam is a religion of peace! It never has been and never will be!

The only Muslims who believe in peace are “liberals” who do not follow the Koran very faithfully. The most loyal, faithful Muslims are the terrorists who believe in following their holy book, the Koran, in all that it teaches. When will we recognize that the problem is not Muslims themselves; the problem is the Koran! How long will we fail to link such atrocities to the Koran? Will it take that proverbial “two by four” between our eyes to wake us up?
