“There is much to be said about showing people what the Word of God says, and then living it in front of them to make it attractive.”
Peter wrote to wives with unbelieving husbands, “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear” (1 Peter 3:1-2).
This good advice would also apply to Christian husbands who have non-Christian wives. There is much to be said about showing people what the Word of God says, and then living it in front of them to make it attractive. Encouragement and consistency is what God is calling for here.
But let’s suppose that you have tried this game plan. As a matter of fact, you have followed this pattern for a lengthy time and your mate is still not a Christian. What are you to do? Giving up is not an option. As long as the both of you are alive there will always be hope!
Allow me to share a very rewarding story with you. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas were married for a great number of years before their deaths. Both were sincere Christians and a joy to be around. Robert was baptized into Christ in 1986. They had been married for fifty-nine years before he became a Christian at the age of eighty-three. Sister Beuton had been baptized at age twelve in a nearby creek. Every day of their married life she lived like a Christian, prayed, and hoped for the best. What a great day it was when the two were united in Christ!
May their story give renewed encouragement to all who pray for a mate’s salvation. Faithfulness is a strong teacher.
