A miser worked all of his life, saved his money, and told his wife, “When I die, put all my money in the casket with me. It’s going to the afterlife with me.” He made her promise with all of her heart. He died. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers closed the casket, she said, “Wait a minute!” and went over to put a box in the casket. The undertakers then locked the casket and rolled it away. Her friend said, “I know you weren’t fool enough to put all that money in there with your husband.” She replied, “Listen, I’m a Christian, I can’t go back on my word. I promised.” “You put that money in the casket with him!?” “I sure did,” she said. “I got it all together, put it into my account, and wrote him a check. If he can cash it, he can spend it.” Serious truth to ponder: We can’t take it with us (1 Timothy 6:6-10).
