“Global Warming”, By Leon Brashear

There has been and continues to be a lot of discussion about global warming. Some seem convinced that we are going to destroy the earth unless we make some drastic changes.  We may be damaging the environment to some extent but there are other factors which most have never considered.

In Gen. 8:22 the Bible states, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” For the one who believes in God and His word this should set our mind at ease.  As long as time continues, so will the natural laws that God put in place at creation (Gen. 1-2).  In his outlined commentary on Genesis, Bob Winton writes,

“God hereby resolved to continue the earth’s seasons until the end of the earth. Implied in the statement is the fact that the earth will cease to be at some future date. In the meantime we have God’s unconditional promise of the continuation of the seasons.”

God has also assured us that the world will not be destroyed by another flood as in the days of Noah:

[11] And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. [12] And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: [13] I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. [14] And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: [15] And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. [16] And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth (Gen. 9:11-16)

The final destruction of the earth will happen when Christ returns – this is beyond the control of any man or nation of men.

[10] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. [11] Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, [12] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? (2 Pet. 3:10-12)

What then is the great need of our day (and of every generation)? The most urgent and eternal need is for men to prepare themselves for the return of Christ!

What must the sinner do in order to have his past sins forgiven?

Hear (Romans 10:17)

Must have faith (Hebrews 11:6)

Believe in and confess faith in Christ (John 8:24; Romans 10:9-10)

Repent (Luke 13:3-5)

Be baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38).

Who is saved?  Only those that obey God! (Matthew 7:21; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).

After baptism into Christ, Christians be faithful until they die or until Christ returns (Rev. 2:10; 1 Cor. 15:58).
