New Testament Christians are commanded in Jude 3 to “earnestly contend for the faith”.
The “faith” referred to is the one gospel (Gal. 1:23; Phil. 1:27; 1 Tim. 6:10; Acts 6:7). So we are to contend for the gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament. To “contend earnestly” means we are to stand up for and defend the word of God. When someone teaches something opposed to the Scriptures we must oppose it with the truth, with the Word of God, with book, chapter and verse.
