The gospel is the good news that Christ died for our sins and that we may be saved in eternity. There are facts of the gospel that must be understood and believed. Jesus preached that men must repent and “believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Paul tells us that the gospel he preached was that Christ died for our sins, was buried and resurrected (I Corinthians 15:1-4). These facts must be understood and believed. Must Practice Self-discipline Satan tempted the Apostle Paul, but Paul tells us how he kept himself from sin, resisting temptation:
“I discipline my body, and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified,” 1 Corinthians 9:27.
Discipline – there is that dreaded word. But, if I am going to take that “way” to escape, I must, like Paul, discipline myself, say “no” to Satan and resist his temptations. Continue reading
Many of the world’s preachers tell the seeking sinner who needs to be saved to “accept Jesus as your personal Savior” or “just receive Jesus,” but fail to tell people how to do it. The human creature needs to be told the specifics. That’s why the Scriptures spell out specific steps a person must comply with in order to be saved. Why can’t the preachers spell out these same biblical steps? As a result, most religious people do not really understand how one receives Jesus. Continue reading
